2018 BHS Health Sciences Lab

The Barrington 220 Educational Foundation provided $90,000 for the development of the classroom, which was made available for use during the 2018-2019 academic year.

The Educational Foundation is committed to supporting major projects that prepare our district's students for a successful future in a competitive workplace. For those students wanting to explore careers in the healthcare field, a new opportunity will soon be available at Barrington High School. The Barrington 220 Educational Foundation is proud to announce our support of a Health Sciences Lab located at Barrington High School. This new innovative space and supporting curriculum will open the door to healthcare careers for many future students.

Before this new Health Sciences Lab, students interested in pursuing a Certified Nursing Assistant license would travel, by means of their own transportation, to Harper College, which significantly limits the number of students who can take advantage of these courses.

Creating a Health Sciences Lab at Barrington High School allows more students to receive this important curriculum while still receiving dual credit at Harper. A student who takes all three courses will receive 10 credit hours and be eligible to take the Nurse Aide Competency Exam to become a state licensed CNA.

BASIC NURSING ASSISTANT TRAINING PROGRAM COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Basic Nursing Assistant Training Program teaches students basic nursing skills to provide direct hands-on care of residents in long term care and hospital settings. Students will learn the basic skills in a theory and laboratory setting prior to the clinical experience.  A theory grade of 75%, and the successful demonstration of skills is validated prior to the clinical experience in order to deliver safe, competent and quality care. Before entering the clinical, students will need to obtain, at their own expense, required medical tests and appropriate uniforms. At all times, students are under the direct supervision of an Illinois Department of Public Health approved registered nurse. The clinical experience begins approximately the 8th week of class on a Saturday at 6:30 A.M. or an evening session. Graduates of this program are eligible to sit for the state Nurse Aide Competency Exam and obtain employment in a variety of health care settings.
