2023-2024 Major Project

The Creativity Project

On Monday, September 18, the inaugural Creativity Project Pilot was launched at Grove Ave Elementary and Lines Elementary for 95 students in grades 3-5. These two schools were chosen due to high staff interest in the project. District staff members Becky Wiegel, Brigid Tileston, and Melissa Byrne met with the elementary “Creativity Guides” for two days over the summer to define goals and instructional aims for the pilot program. This fall, students in grades 3 - 5 will participate, and this spring students in grades K-2 at participating schools will have the opportunity as well.

Project Overview
The Creativity Project is an after-school opportunity for students to explore interests that are meaningful to them in a guided setting. Students will work in teams to develop a project (identified by the students!) that will serve their community. Projects may inspire, entertain, inform, care for, or educate others. Students will explore and develop their interests in areas such as arts, STEM, theater, writing, communication, philanthropy, business, fashion, or anything else that sparks creativity!

Working with the “Creativity Guides” students in the first session discussed the following concepts:

  • Define Creativity and explore how creativity fosters problem solving in humanities, the arts, science and the world around us.

  • Define how innovators solve problems and work together to create something new.

  • Explore three creativity stations: Philanthropy, Arts & Communication, Engineering.

Students will pursue their areas of interest for the following six weeks of sessions.

Students will share their projects with the wider community on Monday, October 30th at 6pm at Barrington High School.

Culinary Internship Program

Next month, the renovations to the Culinary Arts Lab at Barrington High School are expected to be complete. The Foundation is pleased to support this redesigned career path by funding equipment, supplies and other materials for students to develop a student-run catering business.  The Foundation will grant the district $111,000 for this endeavor.  We are grateful to our many donors and sponsors of our Golf FORE 220 event held in June for their support of this exciting opportunity.
